Description
The text of the Torah (the Pentateuch – the Five Books of Moses) is painstakingly handwritten with ink on parchment sheets, using an ancient technique. When the lengthy process of writing is finalized, the sheets are sewn and rolled which forms the Torah scroll. Completing a new Torah scroll is a rare festive occasion. Traditionally, the new Torah scroll is led to the synagogue by the congregation whilst singing and dancing, often accompanied with live music performances and a torchlight procession. All the older Torah scrolls stored in the synagogue’s Ark are carried out, as if to welcome the new member
